On June 4, join us for a special evening celebrating the publication of Dan Winters' first book, Periodical Photographs (Aperture, May 2009). Known for the broad range of subject matter he is able to interpret, Winters is widely recognized for his celebrity portraiture, scientific photography, photographic illustration, and photojournalistic stories. Winters has won over 100 national and international awards for his work, including the Alfred Eisenstadt Award for Magazine Photography and the First Place World Press Photo Award. Kodak has honored him as an "icon" in their biographical "Legends" series.
He is given regular assignments for a host of magazines, including The New York Times Magazine, Esquire, GQ, The New Yorker, Fortune, Entertainment Weekly, Texas Monthly, Rolling Stone, New York Magazine, Los Angeles Magazine, W Magazine, Premiere, Discover, and Gourmet. Winters also does shoots for prestigious clients such as Nike, Microsoft, IBM, Hewlett-Packard, Sony, Bose, Saturn, Converse, Warner Brothers, Paramount, Dreamworks, Columbia Tri Star, and Twentieth Century Fox. His photos are included in the permanent collection at the Houston Museum of Fine Arts and the Harry Ransom Center for Humanities. He has had two solo exhibitions in Los Angeles, one in New York, and is preparing for a third in Los Angeles this summer. T.J. Tucker, Art Director for Texas Monthly Magazine, will introduce Winters.
The discussion will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Atrium and will be followed by a book-signing and reception. Copies of Dan Winters: Periodical Photographs will be available for sale. Admission is free but registration is recommended.
